- Fuel is highly flammable, so storage location is critical
- Store fuel in one of the following approved locations:
- A shed
- A garage
- Outdoors, at least 6 metres away from your house (for example, at the end of a driveway)
- Always keep fuel containers away from heat sources, sparks, and direct sunlight
- Use only approved containers designed for fuel storage
Proper Care for Metal Jerry Cans
- Store in a well-ventilated, dry area out of direct sunlight
- Regularly inspect the lid seal and pourer seal — these are wear items and should be replaced if cracked or worn
- Check the powder-coated exterior for scratches or chips; clean and touch up exposed areas to prevent rust
- Avoid dropping or heavy impacts — severe dents can damage the internal lining and lead to corrosion over time
- If internal lining damage is suspected, replacement of the can is recommended to avoid contamination
- Lightly lubricate hinge/tine areas with grease to reduce wear and make opening/closing easier
