A peripheral vane pump, also known as a regenerative turbine pump, operates with a peripheral impeller that rotates within a nearly concentric casing channel containing an inlet and outlet. As liquid travels from the centre of the impeller to its rim, energy is imparted to the fluid. The liquid recirculates between the impeller vanes, enabling the pump to generate high pressure at relatively low flow rates. Notably, the pump’s input power decreases as the flow rate increases, making it efficient for specific low-flow, high-head applications.

What is a Peripheral Pump?

A close-coupled centrifugal pump known as a peripheral pump features an impeller with several radial vanes on the exterior edge. Large amounts of energy are transferred while the impeller rotates inside the casing's concentric channel while liquid flows between the vanes and casing, increasing the pressure inside the pump. Fluid flows from the casing's input to its outlet when the pressure inside it rises.

Applications

  • To pump uncontaminated liquids
  • Pressure boosting only if the main line pressure is lower than the pump-rated pressure
  • Applications in which a low flow rate must be pumped at high pressure
