10 Things You Should Know About Air Tools

1. Small Doesn’t Mean Low Air Usage
A compact air grinder can still consume up to 8 CFM. Smaller tools often require just as much airflow as larger ones, especially spinning types. Always check your tool's CFM rating to match it with the correct compressor.
2. Always Oversize Your Compressor
Choose a compressor that’s at least 20% larger than your tool’s CFM requirement. This prevents overworking the unit and ensures continuous use without overheating.
3. DIY Compressors Aren’t Workshop-Ready
Direct-drive compressors are fine for occasional use, but they don’t hold up in professional environments. Belt-driven or semi-industrial models are better suited for daily tasks.
4. Regulate Your Pressure
Not every air tool needs full 8 bar pressure. Use a regulator to adjust output and protect your tools especially critical with HVLP spray guns.
5. Filters Prevent Moisture Damage
Water in compressed air can rust internal components. Use a water trap or airline filter, and consider an oiler for moving parts to extend tool life.
6. Air Leaks Waste Money
Small leaks in couplers or hoses can cause your compressor to cycle unnecessarily. Use thread tape and check fittings regularly to avoid energy loss.
7. HVLP Spray Guns Are Smarter
HVLP guns use lower pressure to reduce overspray and increase paint efficiency up to 70% more effective than older high-pressure models, and better for your lungs too.
8. Extend Hoses, Not Power Cords
Keep extension cords under 15m. Instead, install your compressor centrally and run longer air hoses or copper lines around your workspace.
9. Pneumatic Tools Offer Big Benefits
They’re lighter, safer (no electric shock risk), have better power-to-weight ratios, and often last longer even in DIY environments.
10. They’re More Affordable Than You Think
Pneumatic tools cost slightly more than electric tools, but last longer and perform better. Adendorff stocks a full range to suit any budget or workload.
